ECC Intelligence: ask SAP a question, then act on the answer

A conversational layer over SAP ECC that answers from real system data, proposes the next action, and routes it through approval before anything posts.

Most of the working day in an SAP shop is not decision-making. It is retrieval. Which vendors can supply this bearing. Whether the stock on hand is really available or already committed. What we paid last time. Which purchase orders are open past their delivery date. Every one of those questions has an answer sitting in ECC, and every one of them costs somebody ten minutes and three transaction codes to get to.

ECC Intelligence is the layer we built over that. You ask in plain business language. It goes and reads your actual SAP system, brings back the figures, tells you what it thinks you should do, and then stops — because doing it is a decision a person still makes.

It answers from your system, not from memory

The single most important property of this product is that it does not make things up. Every number in an answer comes from a live read of your SAP system on that request. Nothing is recalled, inferred, or rounded into place. If a figure cannot be retrieved, the answer says so instead of producing a plausible one.

When a request is genuinely ambiguous — five materials that all look like the bearing you meant, three vendors that might be the same company — it comes back and asks which one you meant. We treat that as a correct outcome rather than a failure, because the alternative is a system that guesses confidently and is occasionally, expensively wrong.

Nothing posts without an approval

When the agent proposes an action — a purchase requisition, a stock movement — it does not execute it. It writes a proposal: what will happen, to which material, at what price, against which live inventory snapshot. That proposal goes to a person with the authority to approve it.

  • Segregation of duties is enforced, not suggested: whoever proposed an action cannot be the one who approves it.
  • Approval thresholds follow your policy — value bands, risk level, who is allowed to sign off on what.
  • Writes go through SAP's own business interfaces, so your budget checks, custom supplier logic and existing approval workflows all still run exactly as they do today.
  • Before a write commits, stock is re-read and compared to the snapshot the decision was made on. If someone consumed it in the meantime, the action stops rather than posting against numbers that have gone stale.

Every action leaves a record you can prove

The audit trail is append-only and cryptographically chained, which means it is not just a log — it is a log you can demonstrate has not been edited. Each entry links to the one before it, and the console has a button that re-verifies the whole chain on demand.

For anyone who has ever had to reconstruct, six months later, why a particular order was raised and who approved it, this is the part that matters. The question 'who did this and on what basis' has a complete answer: the original request, the data that was retrieved, the proposal, the approver, and the resulting SAP document.

It only offers what your system actually supports

No two ECC installations are configured the same way. Rather than assume, the platform inspects the environment and records what is genuinely available module by module. Anything unavailable or partially configured is simply not offered — so the agent cannot promise a capability your system does not have.

Fast enough to actually use

An internal tool that takes five seconds per click does not get used, however good its answers are. We measured the platform's own screens and went after the slow paths directly.

  • Data endpoints across approvals, activity and security: 5.9x faster after removing redundant database round trips.
  • Page loads that previously took one to two seconds now return in 15–28ms — between 33x and 47x faster.
  • 77 automated tests run on every change, covering the approval rules, the audit chain and the refusal behaviour.
These figures are from our own instrumentation on our reference environment. Performance in a customer landscape depends on that system's sizing, network path and data volumes, and is confirmed during a pilot rather than assumed.

Who it helps

Buyers and planners get their answers without hunting through transactions. Approvers get a proposal with the evidence already attached, instead of a request they have to go and verify themselves. And whoever owns compliance gets something they rarely get from an AI project: a complete, verifiable record of every action the system took and every person who authorised it.
